EsXi server Datastores can be used for Backups too
You can UPLOAD / Download Windows files to ESXi Datastores - these files can be Networked or on local machines and the machines can be either REAL or Virtual ones.
Since Storage on a SERVER is usually pretty configurable it seems a good place to store Backups that you won't accidentally delete or overwrite from Windows systems.
I'm hoping to get some NAS storage soon and will use it on the Server. This way I only ever need a MINIMAL amount of data on my laptop(s) or local machines.
Retrieving data from the server means you can access it from almost anywhere too withoutout going through hoops like teamview/rdp/vnc/ or via complex vpn's.
Use the DATASTORE BROWSER from the configuration menu on your CLIENT machines to upload / download directories or files.
You can also use WinSCD - an easy file transfer system for your Linux Directories -- you enable SSH on the server -- this is also EASY but again hidden -- on the SERVER console itself press F2 Customise system ===> Troubleshooting Options==>Enable Remote Tech support.
Some of the SIMPLEST STUFF is really hard to find !!!
