Windows XP Mode Freeze-ups

I haven't really gotten a straight-forward answer to this problem but on my Windows 7 laptop I have Virtual PC with Windows XP Mode. Since I have Kaspersky PURE, I tried putting that on the virtual side since its on my host. As soon as PURE would load at startup in XP, the whole virtual machine would freeze up and not become responsive again. And now I just won the Kaspersky IS 2012 Preview download and its doing the same thing that PURE did.

Does anyone know if there is a solution or why this is happening? Kaspersky support hasn't ever gotten back to me regarding this issue and I can't think of anything else it could be. At first, I thought there was a conflict between the Kaspersky on my host and the virtual machine so I turned it off temporarily and tried running KIS 2012 in XP and it still didn't work. There are other solutions that work fine in XP Mode but Kaspersky is the only one that will not.

Hi,

why using an AV for a virtual PC in the first place?

You can always reset the machine (if you use the undo-disk feature).

Also for the main XP Mode VPC it is only a resource and performance eating service. I see no real benefit for using an AV in a VPC (OK, except you want to test archives, if they contain any malicious stuff).

Albeit, have you already contacted the AV support site? Kaspersky was it, they should be better suited to deal with this problem. I would simply guess the application is not compatible with virtual devices.

I am in the same situation as codyw... When the AV starts, XP mode VM freezes. Has there been any progress on this? Have you ever heard back from Kaspersky?

I can assume that you are wanting to use the AV on a VM to verify software is safe before installing it on the host machine. Without the AV, how would you know if there are any viruses? I download a lot of junk and the VM is a perfect sandbox/lab. When I find something I really like, I move it to the host for increased performance. Too bad I can't get this AV to work on the VM, b/c IMO, AV is a very important part of a VM.
