Remote Desktop Issues

I have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit laptop. For work I HAVE to use an older software that requires a 32-bit driver... I bought my PC from Dell and was told the XP visualization would run it fine... Yeah... It let's me install it fine but here's the issue. Evidently the software is designed not to run at all on a virtual computer and it tells me it's not licensed to run on this machine... I installed it in the virtual machine but since my computer is technically remotely connecting to the virtual machine. Any suggestions to make this work without having to buy a copy of 32 bit windows?

You can install 32-bit drivers to a 64-bit system just not vise-versa. I doubt that the program knows it's running on a virtual computer. It's just another computer. And that may be your problem. It could be that the program is the type that requires registration and can only be installed on one computer at a time--Like your OS. It sounds like it's running or you wouldn't get the message. Check with the publisher of the software to find out about multiple licenses if you're trying to run it on more than one machine or how to transfer it to a new machine and re-register.

If you provide specifics, maybe someone here can provide better help.

That's not entirely true - if it's a *kernel-mode* 32bit driver, you won't be able to install it onto a 64bit system, period.

As to what it is that requires a 32bit system, perhaps the OP could be more forthcoming. Otherwise, we're left guessing and will have to answer with a generic "yes, if it's a 32bit kernel driver, you will need a 32bit OS - if it's for hardware, it won't work in a virtual machine".
