Best and Safe Virtual DVD/BD-Rom

Hi All,

I want to install some Virtual Emulation DVD/BD-Rom software.

And now I find three of them, which one is better for Windows 7 x64, it much very stable and not make any BSOD on x64 Windows 7?

1. WinCDEmu
2. Magic Disk
3. Daemon Tool Lite

Thank you very much.

Hi explorer1979

The best and safest is,MagicISO

(I never analyzed minidump with magiciso crash\bsod in it).

Daemon tools sptd cause many BSOD.

Hi there
go for Alcohol 52% FE (Free edition).

It also has the added advantage that you can mount NERO (.nrg) images as virtual devices too.

Free-Codecs.com :: Download Alcohol 52% 2.0.1.2033 : Alcohol 52% CD & DVD emulation software can create virtual CD/DVD-ROM drives

Works also on Windows 7 real systems as well.

You can also copy BLU RAY movies to an ISO format (use AnyDVD to copy the DVD to an ISO file and then mount with Alcohol 52%) and then Alcohol 52% will also treat these as REAL BD devices too. Easily the best FREE virtual CD / DVD emulation pgm I've seen.

Cheers

WinCDEmu also is simple and lightest as I understand. Try WinCDEmu and also Virtual Clone Drive. If these two satisfy your requirements, choose the one you like. No need to take my word.

Just Google " virtual clone drive vs alcohol vs daemon tools " and read on and pick your choice. Everyone has a favorite but you have to decide which is gonna be your favorite.

EDIT: Also read this thread which I came across just now. Recommend the Best Virtual Drive Software.

Hi there
Big drawback to magic iso is that it won't mount some large DVD format files / some D/L DVD (Dual Layer) copies and BD / BLU RAY formats.

However Alcohol 52% FE is FREE and by using SCSI type drivers it can mount almost anything thrown at it and is really robust.

I rip a DVD to an ISO using AnyDVD - removing regional protection and CSS encryption but keep everything else (Menus etc --NO COMPRESSION since I often view these movies with a LARGE monitor.) Most movies are D/L disks these days.

Remember the OP was talking about EMULATION software - the ability to MOUNT an image. Things like magic iso are for CREATING ISO's. I've found also when trying to create an ISO from some images using magic iso - for example with NERO's .nrg format- most emulation / virtual CD/DVD software won't mount these properly or if they do you will get errors when using Windows explorer etc.

The Alcohol FE software will mount directly a lot of formats such as .nrg without even having to convert them first.

May be he will come back and shock us all with something new.

Anyway I should thank him for bringing out the open source WinCDemu.

From what I have read seems to be a good one. Though, I may not try since I am happy with Virtual Clone drive, which I predominantly use to mount BD ISOs and play.
