How can I use VM on my laptop w/mobile connection like the Internet? I attend college full-time via online and on of my courses requires(!) using the VM (virtual machine) to complete the assignments. I connect fine, but once inside everything is unbelievably slow. Everything loads in blocks visually, like puzzle pieces, and will kick me out of the console if I do not input every minute or two. I am told it is the result of using a wireless connection vs "hard-wire." What can I do to "bring it up to speed"? 1 hour of work takes 3 hours, it is that slow. | My System Specs |

If you are using either a mobile phone or dongle it isnt goin to help. I doubt it is an wireless issue, unless your signal is lowest bar. What VM hosting software do they use? If its VMware make sure vmtools is downloaded, this sugnificantly decreases mouse drag, as for the refresh rate etc.... sounds to me like its there servers, not your connection they might not have enough RAM to support all of the VM's for the students....Try going on a time where most people are asleep. You might see a performance increase if that is the issue.
can you go to speedtest.net and attach a screenshot? or type in what you get for download speed and upload speed | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 pro 64 bit CPU Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93GHz Motherboard MSI P55-GD80 LGA 1156 Memory Gskill 8 gig, 4x2gig Graphics Card ASUS EAH5850 Sound Card built in HD Monitor(s) Displays HP 23 inch Keyboard Logitech G110 Mouse Razer Death Adder Case Cooler master HAF 932 Cooling 4 case fans, v6 cpu cooler Hard Drives 1tbHDD,500HDD,500HDD,30SSD no RAID... http://www.speedtest.net/result/1551595874.pn g I hope this is right. So should I invest in a router? I am living w/parents (pathetic) again and they have satellite and my daughter gets her internet that way but I am not to "take advantage" of the service, hence my mobile modem. Would a router solve the problem? I tried the VM on her desktop and it is like night and day, meaning it runs perfectly.

yes thats a horrible connection,
im not sure what you mean by would a router solve the problem?
Routers are tools to connect one network to another, you need the full setup, modem, router maybe wifi, if you want to buy that too....but your not going to be able to run RDC connection or anything else for that matter, with .20 download speed. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 pro 64 bit CPU Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93GHz Motherboard MSI P55-GD80 LGA 1156 Memory Gskill 8 gig, 4x2gig Graphics Card ASUS EAH5850 Sound Card built in HD Monitor(s) Displays HP 23 inch Keyboard Logitech G110 Mouse Razer Death Adder Case Cooler master HAF 932 Cooling 4 case fans, v6 cpu cooler Hard Drives 1tbHDD,500HDD,500HDD,30SSD no RAID... I am sorry it took so long to get back to you. I think I had mentioned my daughter's pc is "hard-wired," through satellite TV, but... I was to get my own connection, hence the wireless modem. If I connect her pc to a router and program it to recognize my laptop, would that not solve the connection issue.
My wireless modem is completely separate from the satellite connection. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba-Satellite C655-portable OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1 CPU AMD Athlon(tm) II P320 Dual-Core Processor Motherboard TOSHIBA Portable PC Memory 3.00 GB Usable 2.75 GB Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series Sound Card High Definition Audio Device Monitor(s) Displays Generic PNP Monitor Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Keyboard Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard with Mouse HID compliant mouse and Synaptics PS/2 TouchPad Cooling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System Internet Speed Wireless and/or Mobile Antivirus Avast Other Info Wireless router through satellite (DirecTV) How can I use VM on my laptop w/mobile connection like the Internet? problems?
