    Virtual XP Graphics Issues

Can someone please give me a reason as to why I'm only able to select 1440x900 as my resolution, and 16-Bit Color (Medium) for the color quality? I'm more than sure that my computer is capable of handling more than that.

    Help, please?

I saw that with mine as well, although my res was 1024x768 with 16-bit colors. I went under device manager to find that the virtual environment is showing something else in place of my graphics adapter. It's not showing my ATi 4850 and instead shows something else.

I tried to install my graphics drivers, but the install was just ignored by the virtual OS.

I don't know if it's even possible to go above 16-bit color quality with VPC + XP Mode. I don't really need the integration features (yet) so I'm half-tempted to just install VPC 2007 SP1 and install my old copy of XP on that just to be able to get 32-bit color, plus enable ClearType.

Graphics cards are not a part of the hardware virtualization specification. Your graphics is a 'simulated' graphics card - for example, in VBox, you can only get a standard graphics adapter with up to 128 MB of RAM, whereas I have a pair of GTX260s. It would be nice if I could dedicate one of my 260s to the VM, but as of right now it cannot be done.

I tested VirtualXP and dropped it due the graphics limitations. I finally chose VirtualBox it provides the graphics quality that I need. One quality it shares with VirtualXP is price. A very nice feature that is.

XPM isnt meant for anything fancy. Its intended for the corporate environment where they just want old programs to run without doing anything fancy.

No virtualization was made for hardcore gaming - if you need to hard core game, you want the max resources available to you in the first place - so dual boot. It takes a ton more resources to run a guest OS inside a virtual environment inside a host OS than it does to just run that guest OS by itself....
