XP boot error: missing or corrupted file system32\driver\pci.sys

    Hello!

I converted an old XP machine to a VHD with disk2vhd. Once imported into virtual pc the machine starts up but fails before booting with the message: missing or corrupted file: system32\driver\pci.sys

I've searched the internet and can not find a solution to my problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.... Zach

You will need to use the recovery console to replace the driver from a Windows XP CD:

How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

If D: is your CDROM drive, then you can backup the existing file and copy and expand the new file from the CD:
    C:
    CD \Windows\System32\Driver
    REN PCI.SYS PCI.OLD
    EXPAND D:\I386\PCI.SY_ PCI.SYS
