Windows 95 faults in setup

When I try to install Windows 95 in VirtualBox I get as far as copying the files and then I get this error:

Windows 95 faults in setup-vbox.jpg

This also happens when I try installing Windows 3.1 and Windows Me so I imagine is something to do with win9.x and prior.

any suggestions please.

Sun does not recommend and does not support Winver's 98 or earlier. You can do it, but you need to use a Google adapter.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but prior to WinNT & 2000, windows was rather a GUI on top of DOS than an OS. Of 3.X I'm sure you had to first install DOS and only thereafter Windows. I do not recall how it was wit 95?

Anyway, I found this for you.

yes it was. It was on top of dos. I did format the drive and sys'd it to transfer dos over before installing Windows.

Swarf, you should apply for a position at Sun. Maybe a support bloggist. Blogger is to bloggist as technician is to engineer.

Yeah, I was quite sure you'd done that. It just was the first thing in my mind after reading your post.

That's very strange Swarf, i've had 95 installed on VBox with no issues. The only thing was getting drivers installed for my video/wireless hardware
