VMLite - an alternative Windows XP Mode impl

Windows XP Mode on any PC (www.vmlite.com)

A Windows XP Mode like virtual machine that does not require VT-x or AMD-v, so Windows 7 on old PCs can also have XP Mode.

There are many more features, snapshots, seamless mode virtual applications, auto shortcuts publishing, shared folders, non-admin, etc.

We are accepting limited number of users for beta testing.

What's run with running a 'V-Lited' (or "N_lited" ) version of Windows XP under something like VBOX or even VMPLAYER -- using QEMU you can actually CREATE Virtual machines in vmware format so you don't need to pay for vmware workstation.

Using nLite (or Vlite) you can create a really stripped down version of XP (or VISTA) already.

I have a feeling that good though it is to see people attempting to provide alternative services to MS your product just won't hack it as it's already basically "do-able' already.

Note VMWARE and VBOX products don't require the "Virtualision Feature" to be turned on in the BIOS to run 32 bit Guests. 64 Bit guest OS'es are another issue entirely however but as XP is a 32 bit OS then no problem provided you have enough RAM for your VM.

    Cheers

maybe they are bundling XP as part of the package...
dont see how they can do it free or with less than 80 dollars a product (since this is a a Licensed version of XP..)
and as long as they are using the OSE license VB and not the PUEL licensed VB im fine...:)

I have the 64bit 7 covered here on the SUN Portable VBox and a few things to boot too!

The problem is "lim-it-ta-tions"! with anything other then the XP mode itself!

They cannot be bundling Windows XP as part of the package...not legally that is. I think this is simply going to be another VM software package that allows you to setup and configure virtual machines. The VM's themselves will have to be provided by the end-user.

How do you think I got 7 and other things going? I still had to have the dvd for 7 along with the others burned to disk as well there.

One simply allows the auto start of the live disk while in the drive. The other two saw a direct install onto the vhds on the flash drive itself along with 7 having it's own.

The Portable VB as well as any other program is simply the program by itself providing the means to run not the OS itself.

either that or it will use the XPM image (meaning the XP update) as the source....
even there its still illegal (but what about if the user is using win7 Professional? is it still illegal)
