USB port does not work in host OS but works in VM with 1 device
I have two USB ports on the front panel controller of my Windows 7 64-bit desktop computer that share a single cable to the motherboard. Recently, one of the two USB ports stopped recognizing anything installed. However, if I bring up VMWARE PLAYER running XP 32-bit and plug in an old Lego Mindstorms USB infrared tower, it works fine. The tower will not work under Windows 7 64-bit OS, but it works fine under the VM. I'm just confused as to why this USB port will work with the Tower but nothing else. Is this a hardware issue or some conflicting driver issue? Nothing else works in this USB port, but I think everything else I have is USB 2.0.
I've tried uninstalling everything under the device manager in the USB section, letting the computer reinstall, but that didn't solve the problem.
