I had forgotten but I made a tutorial video of installing Windows 7 in VirtualBox that you may find useful. VirtualBox - Install Windows 7 - YouTube
Thank you so much but I have Win 7 in my machine so can't install another Win 7 , to my knowledge.
I need a vm and an os to install into it that does not require a disc.
I know Win 8 has alimited time one and then there is Chrome which is really just a browser.
As I mentioned earlier you can install Windows 7 in the VM for the 30 day trial period without entering a product key. You can download a Windows 7 ISO from here... Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life
I do remember and did not mean to appear remiss.
I was looking for a more permanent guest, and thank you.
I have kept all the notes given me and and at this moment am studying and experimenting.
That's fair enough. In addition to Windows 8 there are any number of Linux distributions which are free that you can try.
Hi again
May I run this past you?
I just got a PM from a friend who said they too were frustrated with the VMs and especially installing the os's.
They said to install a Linux os to a flash drive and use that to test etc instead.
For limited skilled users, is this a reasonable alternative? Any Linux os that you would recommend?
I am going toGoogle Linux as I don't even know what it is. i think it is freeware and a different approach to Windows etc.
I just don't want it to disturb my os.
Thank you for your patience.
Linux is a completely different OS than windows and there are many free versions. You can run some from a flash drive but they don't run to their full ability that way. You would be better off installing one in a VM. It really isn't difficult. The most popular one is Ubuntu with Linux Mint a close second. I have to sign off now. I will pick up any response in the morning.
I think you have given me ample information and I thank you.
