What link are you talking about??

See first thing that i know is , you don't need anti virus separately for your Windows XP Virtual mode..... If this answers your question...

If the VM sees and is seen by the Internet it needs protection.

    Hi,

That is correct - one of the greatest myths is that the host machine on which a virtual machine (VM) is running, is immune from malware contracted on the virtual machine. Malware writers are becoming increasingly aware that virtualisation is far more common than it used to be, and some have gone to lengths to "train" their malware to recognise a VM and not execute on it. Host machines are especially at risk if the VM is networked to the host (e.g. you download a file on the VM and copy it to the host).

For experienced malware researchers, VM's are commonly used as 'honeypots' to test malware behaviour, but they are experienced enough to treat their VM's as strict sandboxes - for us mere mortals, we should never even think of attempting this.

What you need to do is to whilst in XP mode ensure that you have an internet connection, and then download and install an appropriate anti-malware product - I recommend MSE for this. Your VM is a real operating system, so you need to protect it as such.

Here is some more background reading, some of it from a few years back:

Thank you evereyone who has replied and offered advice - much appreciated.

I have managed to install a copy of my anti virus checked (Kaspersky Pure 2.0) and now have everything working as it should be. (I think!)

Once again, many thanks to you all in this forum.
