ok, xp 32bit was fine to install etc.

now the windows 7 install seemed to be fine up untill the "completeing installation" part has been active for over an hour.

how long should it take for this to be done?

Mine only took about 20 minutes for the entire install. Your A/v or firewall may be blocking the installer creating registry entries for the program.

If you are upgrading it can take a long time (my laptop took somewhere around 3 hours).

If it is a clean install, it really should not take that long - anything over r1.5 hours and I'd stat a new install.

Hmmmm, not sure what to tell you there. Since this is a VM and not a live system, try forcing it to reboot and see what happens - since you are installing it right now it's not like you'll lose much....

ok did a chkdisk on the physical drive last night, and it went through ti twice, first time was straight through and the 2nd took a few hours.

so after windows loaded, i started it off ie the vmware and did the setup and it went through swimmingly.

Nice. But your installation defaults and setup and hardware may not be the same as this person is using, and this is in a virtual environment.

I performed an upgrade to my laptop that took 1.5 hours - b/c it was an upgrade. I installed to my desktop (clean install) in 23 minutes. I installed to Vbox and it took 45 minutes the first time b/c I loaded the ISO directly to boot and was watching a movie off the same drive.
