Windows 7: after oracle virtual box.org

after oracle virtual box.org

Hello
I hope this is not naive but I am thinking of installing the iso file for Win 8 in the oracle box.
I downloaded the box but as I read the instructions I was hesitant.
My level is fair but I am trying to improve.
Does this sound correct;
Make a dvd from the Win 8 iso file.
install the Oracle virtual box.
I think the first amount of GBs is 2 and the second 20 GB for my Win 7 x64 Intel i5.
Once the box is done, I insert the Win 8 iso disc and use the box to import it.
If I am on the correct track an need modifications or consider my level too low to entertain this task.
P.S. How long can you use this iso file?
Thank you
Peter

Skip making the DVD from the ISO. Virtualbox can read the ISO directly from your hard drive. Put the W8 ISO somewhere on your hard drive where you can leave it while Virtualbox uses it.

I don't know how long the W8 is good for.

I have written a tutorial about how to install Linux in VirtualBox. Tutorials Part 1 could be good for you to read for it shows how to create a new virtual machine and how to install OS from ISO image. Just change the word Ubuntu to Windows 8 and there you have instructions on how to create your Windows 8 virtual machine. (Notice: Part 1 step 4 says to use 512 MB RAM. That's OK for Ubuntu but for Windows 8 you need at least 1 GB, rather some more.)

Tutorial can be found here: Linux - Install on Windows 7 Virtual Machine using VirtualBox

EDIT: Found the correct tutorial for you: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ndows-8-a.html

VM

The tutorial is excellent, thank you.
I am using the laptop as a guide to the desktop to be sure I follow accurately.

May I ask if there is another VM that contains an operating system other than Win 8, which will expire.
I would like one for experimentation etc and which does not require an operating system disc other than Win 7 desk and laptop?
I gave my xp pc and all to my neighbor's children for school.
Thank you

You can install anything on a virtual machine. Try Ubuntu Linux for instance: Linux - Install on Windows 7 Virtual Machine using VirtualBox

I run W8 in Virtual Box and it runs very well. Here is an example of the boot time (this is real time). Start Win8 in vBox1.wmv - YouTube
