Windows 7: How do you create folder shortcut in W7 pointing to files in XPM?

Hello. I need to access files (via Windows 7) that were saved in XP mode. To do this, I thought I would create a Windows Explorer shortcut in Windows 7 that pointed to the XP mode environment.

The shortcut creation method doesn't seem to work for non-application shortcuts. How can I access (in Windows 7) or move files (to Windows 7) that are created in XP mode?

I have a Canon camera that uses an XP only utility to communicate with the camera. The files are moved from camera to XPM environment. I need to work with the files in Windows 7. Thanks for any help with this.

I have solved this kind of issue by moving XP Mode My Documents folder to host computer. This allows me to access all my XP Mode personal files and documents from Windows 7 host even when XP Mode is not running.

Thanks for the info! The machines are all part of a domain. The Windows 7 machine's My Docs folder is saved on the server and set to offline on the Windows 7 client.

Do you think this approach should still work with this setup? The XP mode install is listed as "workgroup" and I don't recall setting it to join the domain (if that is possible).

XP Mode can join domain as easily as any physical computer. Read more here:

Remember that XP Mode Networking mode should be set to NAT to allow joining a domain. I have not tested moving XP Mode user folders to host in domain environment but logically it should work as easily as in workgroup.
