XP Mode and Virtual PC not showing in Start Menu or All Programs???

Just built this Windows 7 64-Bit desktop machine with a 3 GHz Intel i5 CPU, an Intel DB75EN mobo, and 16 GB of RAM.

I installed XP Mode and Virtual PC, but they do not appear in the Start Menu or under All Programs. They also do not appear under installed programs, or when I do a search for XP.

Yet when I try to install them again, it says they are already installed.

I recently did this on my notebook PC so I know what it should look like.

I cannot find any settings in the BIOS for virtualization.

Can anyone help me figure out what is happening here?

Thank you for your help.

Hi mobile1 and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's a 2 step process, XPMode is just the virtual machine, you also need Windows Virtual PC or other VM software to use it.
Get the Windows VPC installer here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2b6d5c18-1441-47ea-8309-2545b08e11dd

I downloaded the file WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe and installed it. This contains both the virtual machine and XP mode.

No it does not contain Virtual PC, being only a virtual machine which runs on separately installed Virtual PC.

As clearly told in Virtual PC & XP Mode homepage, you need first install the XP Mode, then install Virtual PC. After reboot your Virtual PC and its first virtual machine, XP Mode, are ready to be used.

Hello, I, too, have this problem. However, I have downloaded and installed both programs. I even reinstalled the Virtualisation update, which appeared to reinstall, but still no XP on the Start menu. I tried to reinstall the XP, but the system tells me it is already installed.
One point. My C: drive is an SSD, so I installed the XP program to a hard drive. Might this have an effect? (The option to install elsewhere, though, is offered.)

Additional:
Prior to my previous post, I wasn't watching the screen. I did this time, and discovered I was getting, "Failure configuring Windows Update. Reverting changes." I ran Windows update repair tool, which corrected something but failed to correct problem with recent updates - can't remember the exact wording.

The XP mode is installed - I can see it in Programs and Features, the problem is the virtual machine update, which is refusing to install. I turned off Kaspersky before trying the update from a clean reboot, so nothing was running that could interfere. If Windows can't sort out the problem...?

Any ideas?
Cheers

Final additional. Finally did it. Kaspersky proved a lot more tenacious than I expected. I uninstalled using iObit Uninstaller. Big mistake. Kaspersky must be uninstalled using Programs and Features (P&F), because during the P&F uninstall, options are offered allowing complete uninstallation or keeping this or that. iObit's uninstall misses this options window, and so despite a huge number of remaining entries being found, Kaspersky kept its core well and truly installed. Further, having executed the uninstall this way, on reboot my keyboard and mouse were gone, and eventually, after trying everything I could think of, I had to use System Restore to regain access. (Despite being very annoyed at the time, I nevertheless admired its determination to protect regardless of what was done to it.) Be warned! Anyway...
I then uninstalled Kaspersky using P&F, unchecked everything in Startup in msconfig.exe, and rebooted, and with a now clean computer boot...
Installed the XP file first, and onto my C: drive, just in case, then installled the virtual driver update, and finally, finally it all installed and I now have virtual XP in my Start menu. This sequence does not seem to match the sequence being suggested on Microsoft's site, if I read it right, but as it worked for someone else, and the "correct" sequence only ever failed for me, I decided to risk it.
I'm none the wiser about what was stopping my successful installation. Whether it was Kaspersky, or the sequence of installation; XP and Update files, or installing to my SSD C: drive, rather than an internal hard drive; where I've installed most of my other programs to save the SSD, I don't know. But either one or a combination worked.
Hope it all helps, because I wasn't alone.
