Attach vhd - process cannot access file being used by another process

Hi I created a .vhd for backup on a NAS (WD Mybooklive) and used crashplan for backups. I have to attach the .vhd to allow backup/restore. My hard drive failed so I have replaced and re-installed windows 7 (64 bit) and dowloaded crashplan to recover my data. I started this process but paused the recovery and then rebooted. When I try to attach the .vhd I get an error message 'The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.' I have searched for answrs but can't find out how to resolve - is the file locked? Can I access it any other way - need to recover my data please. Thank you
