Hi all
vmware workstation V7 is a SIGNIFICANT improvement (imo) over 6.5. Lets hope they get vmware server upgraded as well.
1) on a smallish laptop (dual processor) running Windows 7 X-64 enterprise I created and installed a 1GB virtual Windows 7 X-64 Pro machine in 15 mins. Runs 3-d and AERO just fine at nearly native speed (provided host not too busy).
2) The only app I'm missing is DVD playing (but I can do that on the host anyway).
3) 3d works as well as some games (although I'm not a gamer so that area doesn't hold too much interest for me). Decent Video performance does.
I haven't tested a USB TV tuner yet - will need to do that from an XP VM as I don't have Vista or Windows 7 drivers for the tv tuner.
So far nice one vmware -- remember this is still a BETA.
Unfortunately it expires after 30 days - but what I usually do is restore a clean image and then re-install the product to get another 30 days unless the product itself is date limited -- I don't think it will be until vmware wks v7 actually is released for purchase.
You can download the Beta trial at the vmware site.
Well worth it -- makes Virtual PC feel like swimming in a sea of molasses.
Cheers
