Drives: Make a removable drive (like a mounted VHD) "unremovable"
Low priority annoyance, I think, as oppose to anything more severe, but it's not really cool that MS thinks that a mounted drive can be safely removed... when it can't.
Scenario A: You have a virtual volume (VHD). It's attached (mounted) and write caching (better performance) is enabled, so you can remove it, quickly... but not safely...
If I detach it using a correct process, I can reattach without needing to reboot, through diskmgmt.msc, or vhd attach, or vhd director, or diskpart...
OK (no reboot)
HOWEVER, if quickly remove the volume.. it doesn't detach properly....
Volume before "safe remove"
Even after disabling/uninstalling the virtual volume that was removed ("safely") it can't be re-attached until reboot
(re)attach errors in diskmgmt.msc
and VHD Attach
Thankfully, reboot fixes, and Winblows doesn't (seem to) wreck the drive (data!)
I don't really want/need even a "working" safe removal, re my internal virtual attached volumes. I want them to be like the CD-Rewriter, that's not listed... this may be possible by disabling write caching, but this is a crap compromise (and might not even relieve me of this nuisance).
Is there another way, to "mark" this/any volume as "do not disturb" (like C, via a policy/key somewhere?
