Windows 7: Smartcard w/certificates in XP mode

Smartcard w/certificates in XP mode

I knew before I started this process that something would liekly be funny, but now I know for sure, and am wondering if there's a workaround. All releveant apps and certs have been loaded to my XP mode install.

To remote in to my work computer, I'm required to run my VPN client in an environment that has my root certificates installed, along with my smartcard. When I run the VPN client as a standalone app from XP mode, I get an error about not being able to find the root certs, which makes some sense, but it makes me wonder - how much of the virtual OS is actually running when a virtualized app is running? Is there a way to have my root certificates available for pass thru while my VPN client is connecting?

Any insights into this would be most appreciated. BTW, my VPN connectivity is fine when running XP mode in the full environment, vice running the client by itself from Windows 7.
