Sooper Fast OS W2008 X -64 Server on a Workstation
I made a post about running W2003 Server as a really FAST workstation.
Well Windows 2008 R2 SERVER X-64 works EVEN faster in a VM and its 64 bit as well
Here's how to convert it into a workstation.
Note - as I said before in the W2003 post using an "unmodified" server as a workstation is not always a good idea but follow the "tweaks" in this post (all done via "Bog standard" menu options - no "code mods" etc and you can get possibly the fastest OS in the known universe running on a VM.
Install the STANDARD R2 edition -- you don't need any client access licenses for running 2 (I think) concurrend RDP sessions either.
You can add themes, sound etc etc.
Download FREE from technet if you are a subscriber or just use the trial - valid for 240 days.
The only addition I haven't added are the Microsoft Windows 7 games (Spider solitaire etc - but there is a way to get these off the Windows 7 disks).
In any case you can run the XP spider solitaire just by copying spider.exe to any disk on your virtual VM and just running it - you don't need to install anything.
I LIKE windows 2003 server but its getting a bit long in the tooth - so I'm loading as much as I can from W2003 server on to W2008 server.
