The Install Disk doesn't, the VMWare/Vbox program does. You have to activate even in a VM.

Not all virtual machine apps will ask for the key (and none of them should ask for the product ID). The OP is asking about VirtualBox (Vbox). I have never seen the Vbox software ask for a product key. I've seen the normal installation process for XP ask for a product key, but that is not Vbox asking.

Nope. Vbox doesn't ask.

The install disk might not ask for the key either (e.g. embedded VLK).

I agree to have to activate in VM. The box does not have the activation code. That is written on the computer tower. Since I have a bunch of WinXP towers around this has become quite a project.

I bought an XP Pro disc with activation code a short time ago at local tech store.

It would still be interesting to know but may be mute now.

Thanks for input.
