    Virtual PC Integration Device driver


    I'm having a problem running some programs in XP mode (W7 Ultimate x64). Roxio Creator 2009 gives me a message that 'Remote Desktop is not supported by this application'. Not sure what RD has to do with Roxio but, I looked in Device Manager and have 3 yellow ? (like many others I've read) for Virtual PC Integration Device. I've tried to let XP find the drivers on it's own but it does not. I'm not even sure if this has anything to do with my problems running programs but assume it does.
    So, are there drivers available for this Virtual PC device and if so where?
    Also, what should I see under Display Driver? My video card is not listed but as I'm not a Virtual PC user, this might be normal.

    Check in your bios that virtualization is enabled or set to yes.

    I'll do that but I ran the MS tool and it showed my system was ready. I also read that AMD is already compliant but I'll double check my BIOS.

    As I suspected, the BIOS is set correctly so my problem is not related to the BIOS.
    Any other ideas?

    To access XP Mode or a XP Mode application, your host uses Remote Desktop protocol. The host "thinks" it's making a connection to a remote desktop.

    So if that's the error message you get from Roxio, it might be it is impossible to install on XP Mode, at least without some heavy hacking.

    Kari, thanks so much for that explanation. I should have done my reading on this and likely would have thought that far.
    So, since I just re-imaged my drive I checked RD and found it was not set to accept connections. So I set it to allow connections, verified users with permission and tried again. I still got the message.
    I then turned off the Integration Features and tried Roxio again and got a message stating that I have unsufficient graphics capabilities or my card does not fully support direct x. Both of these are definitely not so. My ATI 4870 is plenty good thank you.
    So, maybe I need to try something else.

    XP mode uses its own, emulated hardware. GPU is an emulated S3 Trio; your host's hardware including the GPU has nothing to do with XP Mode.

    So if installing something on XP Mode you get an error message telling the GPU is not enough, it is referring to S3 Trio on XP Mode, not ATI on your host.

    Don't give up yet, have you tried increasing the screen resolution ? There is a how-to here. Once you increase the resolution to 24 bit, the program might run considering the minimum requirements:

    Roxio Creator 2009
    Minimum System Requirements:
    Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows XP SP2 (32- or 64-bit), 1 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM
    1024x768 DirectX 9 compatible graphics card with at least 16-bit color setting, sound card, DVD-ROM drive
    Hard drive with at least 3 GB free space for installation

    The 3 yellow flags or question marks for the virtualization drivers missing seems to be real common. I think emulation might better describe XPMode, Hope this helps.

    Go to Tools > Disable Integration...in Virtual PC. This will stop using Remote Desktop and use a more traditional vm view point.
