Antivirus on VM?

i installed the XP mode alternative from VMlite as provided in the sticky, it says i dont have an AV (although there is one running on Win7) does the XP machine need one? or will it use 7's one?

You need to run an AV within the VM for it to be protected. It's just like any other machine on the network.

Apart from Microsoft eseential, what is the best anti-virus going for me to use. I love avira apart from when i get false postitives and tell it to always ignore it always seems to forget that setting. Any help would be really nice.
