Does Win 7 XP mode support ExpressCard Slot?

I have downloaded and installed Windows 7 Virtual Machine and XP Mode. Everything went smoothly.

The software I wish to install in XP mode uses a PCMCIA card (with dongle) to communicate with various machine controls for troubleshooting.

My HP Pavilion laptop has an ExpressCard slot for which I can buy an ExpressCard to PCMCIA adaptor.

My questions is: Will the XP Mode software running on the Win 7 machine support and utilize the ExpressCard slot?

Thanks for your help and time.

    Hi and Welcome to SF,

There has been many discussions on what XPM can do and what it can't, especially when it come to integration of host devices and device softwares. to answer you question. I would have to say give it a test try and see how it goes. I have come across cases where it boils down to the machine type, the drivers, the sfotware for the device etc. So yes, give it a go and let us know.

    Hi there

I can save you the trouble.

Unless your HOST supports the express PCI card then its a no-go.

Windows XP as a stand alone Virtual machine (i.e NOT in XP mode) DOES support express PCI cards provided you have a driver for them..

Note however you WON'T be able to run things like Express PCI TV Tuners (Pinnacle for example).

Fast gigabit LAN cards work fine -- if you can find a 1GB LAN.

So whether the PCI express card will actually be of any use on a VM depends on what the card is actually being used for.

    Cheers

if you go to settings for VPC and insert the rs232 express card. Then under COM1 you select Physical, and choose the COM port that has been assigned the express card in W7.
On my install this was COM3..

    works like a charm.
