Does XP Mode need separate Security SW?

From a Nashville Dell Small Business Sales Rep: "You will need to run separate security software (I use Spyware Doctor) when your W7 incompatible proprietary programs are loaded via XP Mode (I've not done this yet)."

My knowledge of Virtual Machines is limited, hence the question: Can this be right, or will W7 compatible Security Softare (e.g. Spyware Doctor) protect both systems?

Thanks very much in advance for clarification

You can install SW in XPM as you do in a normal machine. It is XP OS nonetheless so best to treat it as one.

Yes, you will need whatever security programs you use, installed within the guest VM, just like in your host OS.

It is somewhat necessary as an infected VM (XP mode) can infect the host OS (Windows Seven) as well. For example over a shared network drive/folder.

Replies very much appreciated. The Guest/Host OS analogy especially helpful. Thanks!

Does XP Mode need separate Security SW?

For those of you following this thread, I found, after the fact, a similiar thread at: XP Mode and security which does offer one contrarian view.

The majority consensus, however, has it that because of XVM vulnerabilities installing/running "Guest" OS security software stands the test of logic.
