Adobe After Effects 7.0 - Windows 7 XP Mode

For christmas I was given a brand new computer with the operating system: Windows 7, But sadly, all of my software will not work on it, without errors and I've lost many documents, video, audio and image files due to compatability problems.

And I recieved a new PCWorld Magazine from my subscription and one of the articles talked about Windows 7 XP Mode! I was very overjoyed, thinking I had solved my problems, but not yet. I had Windows 7 Home Edition, which is not eligible to download XP Mode.

So I'm planning on upgrading to Professional, and its like $200, but I wanted to ask.
Has anyone who has windows 7 profession tryed to install and use Adobe After Effects 7.0 Professional? Because I can not afford CS3 or CS4 and most likely won't for another decade and by then a new operating system will be out, giving me even more problems, lol.

Hi there. My computer doesn't support XP mode, but I have been able to run AE7 Pro in Windows 7 Pro just fine without it. I think the only "compatibility" thing that was in use was that it disabled my visual themes when running AE, simply for better performance. That being said I would think you should be fine running it in 7 Home, although I can't test it to be sure.

Thank you very much! This really helps.

Sadly, AE7 doesn't run well on the home edition of Windows 7, but I will go ahead and upgrade to pro!

    Thanks again!

How AE7 runs has nothing to with the Windows version

It has (maybe) something to do if your running it in compatibility (for xp or vista)

AE 7 PRO works in WIN 7 Home Basic no problems

Get the update for AE7 on Adobes website, it may not be for win 7 but get it anyways.

Right click on desktop, Disable Aero theme, Use Windows Classic Theme

I don't know why but some programs don't run with simply disabling themes in the check box under the compatibility tab, you must disable the theme entirely and run classic. When you're done using the program then you can turn on Aero theme.

Right Click on After Effects EXE file and Run as Administrator, even if you have run as administrator box checked in the compatibility settings.

You still should check the boxes for:

    Compatibility mode

    - Run this program in compatibility mode for:
-- Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

    Settings

    - Disable Visual Themes

    - Disable desktop composistion

    - Disable display scaling on high DPI settings

    Privilege level

    - Run this program as an administrator

I managed to get After Effects 7 to work in vista too but that required switching between two different compatibility modes to get certain import and export functions to work and then to circumvent memory errors.
