    Can't Download XP Mode

I am not able to download xp mode in windows 7 professional. Every time I go and click the "Download XP Mode" button it comes up with this "Windows Validation Required" screen. So I download this windowsactivationupdate.exe and then run and install it. However, once I go and click the xp mode button it asks me to install it again even though I just did. I don't know why this message is coming up in the first place because I have activated my copy of windows and didn't do anything illegal to get this copy of windows. The only thing that I can think that could cause a problem is that I used to have this copy installed on my desktop before I switched my desktop to enterprise so I could use professional on this. Any ideas?

Did you try downloading it with IE8?

    How did you fix it?

I am having the same problem and it is driving me nuts. I have tried in chrome, IE8, Firefox but same issue for all. I have run the MGA Diagnostics tool and it tells me that I have a genuine copy of windows but the xp mode download just isn't recognising it.

I am having the same problem and I am using IE8. What is the solution? My copy of Windows 7 Pro was purchased from Newegg and it is authenticated. What is wrong with the Windows download site?

    Hi Brink and cmab,

I definitely did have cookies enabled so it wasn't that. I have now got it working after uninstalling a load of old programs. I'm not sure which one was causing the problem but I suspect it was Trusteer Rapport which my bank had been encouraging me to install. It is the only one which should have affected browsers.
