XP Mode

I know this a stupid question but ya never know.

Since May I have built two new computers and one was specifically to install Win 7. At the time I did not know about the XP mode so after downloading and running the XP mode detection file, I now know neither of the computers I built have a cpu able to run XP mode in Win 7.

Other than building a new PC with a cpu that is able to run XP mode, are there any other options? BTW I hate having both XP and Win 7 installed on the same pc.

There are options like VMWare and Sun Virtualbox. Its works better than XP mode. It will run on your current CPU as well.

Are you sure the message wasn't to say you need to enable CPU virtualisation feature in BIOS?

Like a number of users I'm trapped in the "no password, no XP Mode" loop. What I don't see (or I've missed it) is how to correct the situation.

Welcome ballpet!

You're referring to the password it requires you to create for XP Mode, right? Go ahead and create a password, and remove it later. Simply change the password from XP to a blank.

I always thought it was odd that XP Mode required a password, which is rather pointless since if you were a password kind of person (for your PC) you'd already have one on the host OS. So why have one on the Guest?

I agree, but who knows? Maybe MS foresaw use on company machines, where other people could have access. Just thinkin'...

In any case, it's easy to remove the password later.

When I created XP Mode it had a password, for some time when loading it picked up the username and password as a default and loaded. Then, for some reason, I was being asked for a password. I used the one associated with my profile (the only profile) for Win-7 and that worked. As I could see no particular reason for having a PW for XP Mode I set the password on XP Mode to blank (not knowing that to do so would prevent me from accessing XP Mode) Not being able to log into XP Mode is now the problem, no password, no loading of XP Mode. Resetting the password for Win-7 was no help, XP Mode doesn't seem to have an Administrator login so I can't come in the back door. So my question is: How do I set a new password for XP Mode so that I can get past the login screen?

I just tried running "control userpasswords2" in W-7 but nogo..
