Windows 7: Windows 7 apps running in XP Mode

Windows 7 apps running in XP Mode

I have a very simple question.

1, I have Windows Office 2007 running on my Windows 7 Pro host
2. I also have XP Mode installed on the Windows 7 Host

Here is my question

Once I boot up XP Mode, can I run Office (which is on the Host) in XP Mode ?

I have a shortcut I pasted from Windows 7 to XP mode but it tells me the Office program (Excel) is not properly configured.

Does this mean that I have to have dual installs on both XP Mode AND Windows just to be able to use the exact same program?

If this has been covered in a former thread then please point me to that. Most that I have seen is to be able to go the Other way is to run an XP Mode app launched by a shortcut in Windows 7. I know how to do that. This is going the other way.

Yes. Both are completely independent environments. What you are trying to do would be the same as copying the program files from a Windows 7 computer and pasting them on an XP computer.

I see. That is unfortunate as I can call an XP mode program with a shortcut in Windows 7 and activate it in XP. Seems logical that I could activate a Windows 7 app from a shortcut in XP mode.

This will make for alot of wasted space and licenses, but if there is no other way I guess we will have to live with it.

Thanks

It has to do with backwards compatibility. XP-designed apps can run on Windows 7 but Windows 7 apps cannot run on XP even without having a virtual "XP Mode".
