    Lag in XP mode

The lag is absolutely terrible. Is there any way to get rid of this?

    Hi eshaan,

Here's a hotfix that may help: How To Fix Slow Performance In Windows XP Mode And Terminal Services Session – SoftSailor

Let me know if that does anything.

Hello eshaan, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Here's a tip to speed up XP Mode, and all other Virtual PC vm's you set up:
    • Turn off all running virtual machines
    • Open C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Options.xml with Notepad
    • Add this somewhere between the Preferences tags:
      Code:
      <virtual_machines>
      <enable_idle_thread type="boolean">true</enable_idle_thread>
      </virtual_machines><br/>
    • Save the file

Adding these lines to options.xml let's Virtual PC use the processor more effectively, using more of the host's resources. Performance increase is especially clear in laptops because this also prevents laptop entering to the low power state every time the processor is idle.

    .
Your cpu appears to support virtualization, but is it enabled in the BIOS? You're running x64 Windows in 2gb of ram - that's on the low side and limits ram available to the virtual machine. Is there a lot of hard disk activity when you're running the virtual machine? Page file swapping may be slowing things down.

I decided to chuck the virtual pc mode and I just did a dual boot of Windows XP with Windows 7 and now it's much better. I get the best of both systems :)

Thanks you for the help everyone though!

You could try VMWarePlayer and install XP. i have found this to be very good. I tried Virtual PC but it wouldn't run my games.

    Hi eshaan,

Glad you've found a solution that works for you. I'm an XP dual-booter myself :) Please let us know if you need anything else.

    Thanks a lot mate.

Dual booting XP was the best decision in my opinion.

Get the best of both worlds and apps and games that were not running on 7 due to varying reasons all work on XP
