    HP LaserJet 3050 via Virtualization

I upgraded my machine from Windows XP to Window 7 Home 64-bit. Now my Laserjet 3050 AIO is inadequate. HP doesn't have a driver for Windows 7 for the LaserJet 3050 All-in-One Printer. Instead I am the Windows 7 built-in basic driver and basic features. The printing and faxing is OK with the built in software, but the scanning is no good.

Someone suggested I upgrade to 7 Professional and setup the 3050 in compatibility mode and install the HP software and driver and try scanning with the HP software again. Has anyone got their 3050 working in compatibility mode and if so in XP or Vista mode? Does it work with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit or will I have to instead upgrade to 32-bit?

Hello Chimpybits, welcome to the Seven Forums.

If you have a Vista or XP install media, you could try to install VirtualBox and setup a virtual machine, to test if your Laserjet can be installed to a virtual environment. Although I normally prefer Microsoft's Virtual PC, VirtualBox in your case is a good alternative due to the fact that it can also be installed on Home Basic and Home Premium.
