Since I'm not having much luck installing Windows XP, I figured I might as well try the virtual PC thing (with XP).

It seemed to me like everything was in place. I had enabled the virtualization in my BIOS settings, and followed the instructions here to make sure I was compatible - I was.

After I checked that I downloaded the 32 bit English Virtual PC Beta. Everything went good up until it was time to finalize the upgrade. Once my computer restarted and was configured the upgrade, at about 90% it "failed and had to revert the changes".

I have tried this multiple times, and it's done the same thing.

I haven't even got a chance to try the Windows XP mode, since the second step won't even work.

Hi Noles,

Instead of using the Windows Virtual PC if you are having problems use either Virtual Box (comes in 32 bit and 64 modes), or VM Ware's Virtual Workstation (also comes in both modes). VM Ware' is the best overall, however, after a thirty day trail you would have to pay $185.00 for the application. Virtual Box is free from Sun Microsystems. Actually they are better than MS's Virtual PC (hate to say that, but. . .).

The thing about other Virtual apps is that they don't integrate like XPM. Also, you have to have a spare XP Pro licence...

Noles. Did you try SevenForums instuctions from here?Windows XP Mode - Install and Setup I would try them if you did not. Also look in your installed programs and delete virtual mode before you start again.

XP mode is out of the question.

I don't think it even ever installed.

do you have the VPC and are you able to create a vm and boot into 7 from the vm?
if so there is a workaround...
