Windows 7: Should I upgrade my Win 7 Starter on my netbook to Pro ?

Well basically I bought a netbook last week, and naturally it came with Windows 7 Starter Edition. I find it to be a pretty basic and fast version without any clutter and unnecessary programs, (ie : I don't use MC)

I do like it but unfortunately I'm someone who sometimes wants "more" just for the heck of it :P



I checked the Windows Anytime Upgrade and it's giving me the option to upgrade to Win 7 Professional for $140. I realize that I don't need all the features offered in it but I would like to be able to change my background without having to use Oceanis and I wouldn't mind Aero.

The thing is, I'm over my Credit Limit on my credit card and I dunno If I should try to see If I could purchase it anyway.

I'm not going to download a pirated version of Windows because I don't do that.

Anyway should I try and go ahead and see what will happen ? lol

Now that I have a job I feel a little more confident when I spend LOL ! Knowing that money will be easily available down the road !

Pro looks just like Home Premium. I'd say if you don't need remote desktop services and don't need to join a corporate domain...I don't think I would invest in Professional. Save yourself the cash.

With most netbooks selling in the $300 range, why in the world would you want to spend half as much again for features you won't use?

I would save a Windows 7 backup image externally, then clean install HP to test for up to 120 days so you can see what you're missing - probably nothing more than desktop slideshow.

Then if you feel it's worth it, buy a key. If not, reimage HD from backup using Windows 7 DVD Repair console.

I have pro and my mom has HP. Not really any different. I payed the extra $50 (this was during the pre-order deal a year ago) just to have XP mode and I thought I might need Presentation Mode for school sometime. I used to use XP mode for a couple old games, but I never play them anymore and I still don't even know what Presentation Mode is. Save the money and get HP.

EDIT: finally figured out what presentation mode is. It's cool for when you has a less than appropriate back ground or don't want to change a bunch of settings around just for giving a speech, but I doubt most people would ever make use of it.
