"Windows 7 copy not genuine..."

So I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate a while ago, after reformatting. Misplaced my key temporarily, so I figured I'd put it in when I found it. I found it, but forgot to put it in. Now I'm getting this alert about my copy of Windows not being genuine. Tells me I have to run a validation check... So I download the Validation Check software from Microsoft, and it says that files that Windows needs to run properly have been screwed with.

Screencap:

The extent of which they may have been modified, is me copying two .DLL files into my System 32 folder, and then removing them later. I have my disc, and my key. Any way I can fix this stupid crap without having to back everything up and reinstall? Thanks.

I can't activate it online. When I try and activate it through System Preferences, this is in its place... http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9872/capture2as.png And when I try and activate it by phone, when I run the program to, this is what shows up... http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/7627/capture3o.png And I can't exactly upgrade install from the same OS.

It looks like your only option at this point is to reinstall an unmodified version of Windows... With the new WAT check, once it flags your system as modified, it is not going to activate ... Good luck...

Eh... Im ight have to, I guess. I doubt customer service would tell me anything other than, "reformat and reinstall."

Yeah... Guess I'm stuck with reformatting.
Aw well. Just have to get a hard drive to move my stuff to.
Thanks for your help.

Hello Duo Cultellus, welcome to Seven Forums!

Maybe I've lost something in translation; have you tried a repair install, then enter the key after the repair finishes?

I'd call M$ and I don't see why they can't assist on this, I'd suggest during EST business hours M-F to avoid getting someone that english is not their first language, and it shows.

I tried that, yes. Mid-way it will tell me that the update failed, and it will restore my previous OS.

Well customer service, Microsoft's in particular, is known for having stock-answers, with no actual computer knowledge that they weren't trained with FOR the job.
Essentially, they think closed-minded because their job training has taught them to do so. Their response would likely be the same as Microsoft's troubleshooting website. Just not worth wasting my time on.
Regardless, I've backed everything up, and I'm about to reformat. Given up on finding another solution. Will just have to deal with it, I guess.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
