Will there be a Win7-SP1 "Cleanup" routine?
My understanding is that the Win7 SP1 contains only all the updates up to the current time. So if you are up to date then there is little or nor benefit from installing SP1.
However, when the Vista SP1 update came out they also released a "Cleanup" routine that cleaned up (deleted) all the de-install stuff that all the previous Vista updates had installed. The de-install stuff is what makes the winsxs directory get so large. The cleanup routine removed all of the pre-SP1 data from winxsx and saved most people a couple of GB of disk space.
Of course doing this meant it was impossible to go back to the pre-SP1 version of Vista. Not a major concern for most people I think.
Since my Win7 boot drive is a 64GB SSD I'd like to get that space back.
