If you have Eset installed or any other anti virus that might cause the freeze, disable antivirus and Spyware protection.

    The fix will install.

it wasnt the install that was the issue mate it seemed to install ok it was after a reboot , when it installs the rest during the reboot procedure , thats when it froze on both my pc and the wifes laptop , we both do have Eset but i dont think its the problem

after a hard reset the update did install (at a very odd place) the spinning orbs stopped , the update applied and it botede into windows...odd

i will try disabling eset on the wifes laptop as an experiment if the samr thing happens to my pc next month :)

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I meant the install procedure will complete on reboot if you turn off Eset before install.

It hung up for me as well on two pc's, one a notebook, the other my desktop. For me, both hung up during the shutdown part of the required restart at 15% complete. After forcing a shutdown, both seemed to finish the update during the restarting process. Both pc's running ESET NOD32 4.2.58.3

A second notebook completed the update without any drama, it also has the same version of NOD32.

All three running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

They seemed to finish install but if you look at installed updates after reboot, update might read pending.

    Not good.

    nope not pending , installed

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2286198)

    Installation date: ‎02/‎08/‎2010 19:24

    Installation status: Successful

    Update type: Important

Its odd then , maybe its an Eset issue?

I'm pretty sure that it is an Eset issue. All those that have had the problem had Eset. Some, like you have Eset and did not have the problem.

Maybe is database signature or software version.

I take it that we are on about KB2286198. I use Avast! and had no problem with the installation of this update.
