    Windows Update Installations Failed

I have had several auto update downloads fail to install on my Acer all-in-one PC. this began early August and has continued to date. Those that have failed are as follows: KB2032276, KB2286198, KB2183461, KB983590, KB982664, KB982665, KB982799, KB981852, KB978886, KB982312, KB980436, KB982214, KB2079403, KB2160329. Other updates, such as Windows Defender defenition updates and updates to Microsoft Works, have succeeded. Error codes listed are 80070005 and 800736B3. I have checked system and admin permissions and they are OK. I also have an Acer laptop and there are no problems with Windows Updates on it. The o/s in both cases is Windows 7 Home Premium x 64bit. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

First try uninstall all 3p security software-if it doesn't help then follow below:

Download Process Monitor Process Monitor and Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

Run first Process Monitor, next run readiness tool, when it finish or readiness tool return some error save log in Process Monitor as *.PML format and pack it to *.rar, find also CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder.Check.Sur.log and packed log from Process Monitor upload on RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting, and paste here URL adress to uploaded files.

Hi Flavius and thanks for your response. Have run Process Monitor and logfile can be found at: RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting Have packed as *.zip as not sure how to pack as *.rar, hope that's ok. Readiness Tool was not offered in Windows Update, so presumably is not relevant to this problem. There was no *.log file in the CBS folder, just 2 text files and a number of .cab files.

1.Readiness Tool it's no normal update! -it is special diagnostic tool to detect damages or issues with permissions for folders C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages or C:\Windows\WinSxS folders
2.I don't believe you don't have any *.log file.At least you have CBS.log -I can only suspect you have incorrect settings in Control panel>>folders options and you have checked "Hide file extensions for known files",please uncheck it or use any 3p good file manager.Besides only Readiness Tool create CheckSur.log file report. If you have never ran it,the CheckSur.log doesn't exist.

The question is what you did when Process Monitor was ran -If you didn't try in this time install at least any update the log is unuseful, because tool must have able to detect issue.

Although your first error code relate to permission almost nothing is here:

Time of Day Process Name PID Operation Path Result Detail
12:49:38,2929017 Explorer.EXE 2772 CreateFile C:\Program Files\Acer Accessory Store\Acer Accessory Store.ico ACCESS DENIED Desired Access: Generic Read, Write Attributes, Disposition: Open, Options: Synchronous IO Non-Alert, Non-Directory File, Random Access, Attributes: N, ShareMode: Read, Write, AllocationSize: n/a

I doubt these issues with these softs can cause your problem.I suspect there is something more much dangerous problems. Please do it exactly what I said in my previous post and attache new logs.

Yes,I don't know what could cause this issue...probably some system file due to any reason was blocked...nevermind I glad your system unlocked itself (or maybe readiness tool repaired automatically?) and everything work fine now :)
