    Service Pack 1 for W7

    Hi,
I have downloaded and installed SP1 for W7. All installed correctly and restarted.
However in the bottom right corner of the screen I see; 'windows 7 Evaluation copy 7601'
I went to System and I now have a product key with OEM in the string. I selected 'Change product key' and entered the key on the original W7 installation and it went away and verified it was genuine. Restarted the machine but it still has the Evaluation copy and the OEM key.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
    Thanks

    It's okay, I have that too. SP1 is still a Beta :)

You should be aware that SP1 is currently in Beta and, as such, there may be glitches and bugs which can manifest themselves in different ways on different machines. The reason why it says Evaluation copy is purely because it is Beta code, and is nothing to worry about. The official Beta and RC versions of Windows 7 also said something similar at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Yep, spot on. You are basically using a beta OS at this point, so I'm hoping this isn't an important system.

    Hi,
I purchased a genuine W7 professional and installed it earlier in the year. The genuine SP1 was released on Sep 1 2010 and it was from Microsoft site. Prior to this date home users could not download the beta version.
When I enter the genuine key it is validated OK but the system does not get updated with the correct key.
Somehow the genuine version has been usurped by the KB971033 install

Hmmm... Ive got both SP1 and KB971033 installed, and I get updated without any problems...

    SP1 already?

Can you report back any performance improvements or changes?

I didn't think any were needed.

Guess they need the Updates rollup.

Would you like to provide a link for that? I've searched my TechNet sites and I don't see a single mention of it being available in non-beta form. If it had gone final, I would have had e-mail notifications, it would be all over forum boards, and it would be available through TechNet.

From what I'm reading, you didn't get the final, you got an updated beta. That's good, but it is still a beta, meaning it shouldn't be run on main, productions systems.
