Updates x86 vs x64

I noticed today while browsing through my system and on the windows update catalog site...
that most of my updates are for x86, when there are also x64 versions of the updates.

Should I be worried at all, or does it not matter?

I'm running a dual core x64 amd cpu .. so I would think i should have the x64 versions of these updates...

tia.

Actually it's the OS that dictates what updates you get. Just because you have a 64 bit processor doesn't mean your running the 64 bit version of windows 7. Press the windows key and the pause/break key to open your system properties. Look for "system type" in the "system" section. My guess is it says x86 (32-bit) not 64-bit.

Some of those updates will be for 32bit software like MS office.
It should not be a problem.

Thinking about it even further, 7x64 has 32 and 64 bit versions of some programs like IE, and probably Media player, so you will get some x86 updates. Add in a 32 bit version of office and I'd say you are guarantied to get some. Like ken9122 said it shouldn't be a problem.

Any Windows program that is native to x64 Windows 7 (like media player, IE, etc) will actually get x64 updates only - the x64 updates contain the wow64 32bit binaries. The OP will have to be more specific about which x86 updates are being seen - if they're for non-Windows apps (like Office), then that'd be normal. If they're for Windows itself, then that would actually not be normal for an x64 Windows 7 install.
