Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

    Hello,

Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

I have a Lenovo desktop that I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on last fall. I obtained my legal copy of Windows 7 from Tiger Direct as a promotion that was giving away copies of Windows 7. I still have the envelope and installation cd, the installation cd looks just like another copy of Windows 7 I got from Microsoft. I have been installing updates since the installation last fall. The message appears in the lower right hand side of my desktop screen.

According to a thread that I read a couple weeks ago, I checked my Updates and found that I have two Windows Updates that do not have Publishers. The updates are kb958488 and update kb 971033.

Any ideas on how I can correct this?

    Thanks,
    Peter

You can call the toll-free number Microsoft provides when activating Windows online fails. You basically talk to a computer for about 4 minutes, but once it's done, your copy of Windows should be re-activated and as such be validated as genuine since you said you got it from Tiger Direct. Hope this helps.

Hi PeterGibbons, welcome to the forums , You are in an unfortunate position, The Lenovo prod key was the 1st key the hackers used to crack Windows7 encryption and was subsequently blacklisted ,Now Microsoft are using new techniques to trap the the wayward "keys" Good luck with your chat to Microsoft

This should have nothing to do with Lenovo, as the product key on the desktop is for Vista. The copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, had a license with it. The install went as thousands of previous installs of legally installed Windows OS, without a hitch. Not sure why it has recently decided to display this message.

I am waiting to hear from Microsoft via a contact I have at Twitter, I'll let you know what I find out.

    Thanks,

    Peter

If you use following key combo: WIN PAUSE/BREAK key

Look in the bottom right-hand corner and click on the msg there. Follow the prompts.
