Update is not applicable to your computer

I've been trying to install a .msu pack downloaded from Microsoft's website but when I try to run it I get the message "Update is not applicable to your computer". I made sure I was trying to install the proper architecture version (x64) so I'm not sure why it's telling me it's not applicable. I've tried with several other packages I downloaded that were Windows Update Standalone Installer packages as well but got the exact same message.

KB978542 and KB979687 are the two I'm trying to install currently. Both of them were available as updates in Windows Update but I kept receiving an error when trying to install them which is why I downloaded the standalone packages only to discover this other issue.

Maybe these updates required to install any other updates before?

Download & run Belarc Advisor which help you diagnose which ones updates are missing.Post here results.

Excellent advise. I also use Belarc every once in awhile to make sure that I've not missed something.

Also I use and recommend Securiia Personal Security Advisor.

    What happens if you simply:
    Control Panel | Windows Update

Does it find and install the two missing updates?

You should post at once this error

Download & run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2,this will create CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder, attache this file to post
