Windows Update is not loading updates

[ when I did step 2 and run the program I get this box called Windows Update Standalone Installer. saying "Searching for updates on this computer." It has run for over half an hour. How long should it the program run for?????

Should I do step 3 while the first program is running?

No,you shouldn't run SFC with Readiness Tool at once.Run first SFC tool, when it finish try run Readiness Tool again. If still you have problem with this soft try below advices:http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/111245-troubleshooting-system-update-readiness-tool.html?filter[2]=Performance%20Maintenance

Iran SFC and had nothing in text file. I ran the Readiness tool and it kept on going. I followed the advice in the above link and still no luck when I ran the Readiness Tool.

Any more ideas?????

I agree with TEWS.
After trying other options for four days this would be the logical step.

Thank you for everyones help. I think the problem is solved.

Coincidenctly I tried to reinstall the Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade (from Vista) before I saw TEWS post . During the process I had two options. The first was to conduct the upgrade connected to the internet (this was recommended) the second was to upgrade without that connection. I chose the first option which is what I did the orginal first time This was not successful. During the gathering information stage the upgrade stalled. The latest windows files from the internet did not seem to be loading, so I terminated the upgrade and restarted my computer.

The next day tried I did the upgrade and selected option 2 and it worked. I still had no virus software and Defender and Window Firewall was off. During the installation Windows Update installed the required updates. I reinestalled virus software and turned on Defender and Firewall and left Windows Updates on automatic and it is doing as it should.

So touch wood I am sorted!!!!

Thank you again for everybodies help particularly Flavius.
