WEI score lowered after Automatic Updates?

    I bought a new laptop - ACER 5745G.

After the initial Windows 7 64bit installation my scores were 6.6, 5.9, 5.9, 6.0 and only the Graphics for Areo a 4.9. Since I mostly want to use this laptop for watching HD videos, I figured those are scores aren't low and was satisfied.

However, after automatic updates were installed all scores went down at least 1.0 point.

I tried installing a driver from NVIDIA's website, I tried changing performance settings but nothing made it better - instead in the end the graphics for aero score became 3.7.

I used system restore to get the laptop back to the date before some automatic updates were installed but I don't think I can make it stay like this forever. Or can I?

I would appreciate any advice you can give along with opinion as to what the normal/average WEI score for a laptop is. Am I expecting too much?

    Acer 5745G has:

    4GB RAM
    Intel® Core™ i5- 430M (2.26 GHz) processor
    NVIDIA GeForce 310M (512 mb )
    500 GB hard disk

    Thank you in advance!

This is a tricky one. One possibility is that the auto updates installed some new device drivers possibly from Intel etc., which may not be as optimized as the OEM drivers. You can try going to the Acer support page for your model, then download and install the latest. Make sure you change the windows updates settings to notify/download but not install, that way you can filter out the device drivers.

I have also read accounts of how some folks got better WEI scores by not allowing the Intel Graphics Control Panel software to load and also the hotkey program.

I changed the automatic update settings, but I'm afraid I'm unable to tell which updates might affect my graphics performance and which I can freely install. Pointers are deeply appreciated.

Each update is accompanied by a brief description and a Read more link. Click Read more to view information that is specific to each update. Included in this information are system requirements and, if applicable, instructions on how to use and how to uninstall the update. To see the list of updates you have installed from Windows Update, click View installation history.

You can also google for the particular kb by its number.
