Windows 7: error / hack activation code

ok here is the question.

i have windows 7 home prem 64bit, and my computer crashed today. with that sad i had to reinstall win 7, when it came time to enter the product key it said invalid. so i got all pissed and just started to type stuff in the key field after like 20 sec i enterd 0000-0000-0000-0000-0000 and it worked. no i went to system properties and it says windows is activated with the code with all 0's. not im thinking that i hack windows some how or used a master code. any help will be great i just want to know what the all 0 code is.

Hello Green, and welcome to Seven Forums.

To avoid your copy of Windows 7 from becoming non genuine and not activated again, I would recommend that you change the product key number with your legal one, then activate by phone if it will not let you activate online.

but do you know if the all 0's is like a master key?

I have never heard of that before, but I wouldn't count on it to stay activated like that for long though.

You'll get asked to activate Windows again in a few days.

The all ZEROS is just a mechanism of allowing unattended Windows installs (like SYSPREP with XP / VISTA)
to proceed where you don't have a valid license code or an Enterprise key.

It will allow you to INSTALL windows but will eventually ask for (re-)activation.

As Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) checking is a recurrent process; even if any key activates Windows 7 temporally , in long run it will fail.

Its better to follow Shawn's way.
