I'm new to this forum but not new at all to forums in general an have been on them for a while. Since this thread I have since done another clean install of Windows 7 over the previous installation which was on a clean ssd. The first install went without a hitch and was activated and all that stuff. So all was going well and I had everything right where I wanted it. All the necessary Programs were installed that had been on my previous Vista 64 bit OS and all purchased items had been validated.
Then I see all the Windows Updates. There were over 70 of them and they all appeared to be accumulative. I had already had the most up to date updates installed when the program first installed but I thought these updates were important so I ran them.
Then my system automatically restarted and what happenned after that was disastrous. My system went right to safe mode. 32 bit core drivers
began running and the system would only boot in safe mode. Recovery, System Repair, even restoring my system to a previous state wouldn't work because my system wouldn't load windows 7 normally. I was stumped. I had thought that perhaps there were major conflicts with the accumulated updates but shouldn't they overrite eachother and be ok?
So in the end I ended up reinstalling Windows 7 again but the odd thing was I didn't have to re-activate it! Would the previous installation have done that already and since it was a custom install over the previous version I had everything back to it's normal state but I have been staying away from the updates and have been very leary of the updates now just in case this happens again. Are there certain windows updates that can cause this? Do they conflict and if so then why? Are the updates that windows installed at the initial clean install the only ones that are required for now? What about future updates? I have no problem with MS Office Updates and all that but I just don't want this occurring again. I wonder what could have cause my system to hang in safe mode with no chance of recovery.
Thanks for Reading this. Hopefully someone has had the same experience.
