    Windows 7 reinstall

Help & Info required please. My desktop has had a major power and hard drive failure. I am going to purchase another desktop and my question is: Can I install my copy of Windows 7 on the new machine. Thanks

Hello Bealine, and welcome back to Seven Forums.

It depends on what type of Windows 7 you currently have.

If it's a OEM Windows 7 (ex: preinstalled on store bought computer), then no. You will not be able to install and activate it on any other computer than the one it was first installed on.

If it's a student or retail Windows 7, then you will be able to. If it will not activate normally online, then you may need to activate by phone instead.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
