Of course, as a suggestion for 2nd and 3rd machines around your home is to put Linux on them. If they are primarily used for web surfing and reading email and such....you shouldn't have too much trouble. This would obviously eliminate the problem of having to license Windows on multiple machines. However, I fully understand that Linux is not the answer for everybody in every situation...but depending upon your needs it might just be a good fit.
