    Delete an update

Windows tells me that the Windows Live Essentials update is "important." I have only Windows Live Mail installed, and I do not with to install other Live Essentials items as part of a Windows Live Mail update.

    1. How do I stop the Windows Live Essentials update from appearing, while still allowing notification of other important updates? Is this kind of update selectivity not allowed?

    2. Would one solution be to allow this update and then remove the "Essential" elements I don't want?

I've read through the Windows Update tutorials and did not find an answer.

    Thanks.

    2. would be your best option unless you believe you can do without the update, in which case you should be able to just right click and hide it.

Well, here I was gritting my teeth and scowling at having to install stuff I do not want and then delete, all to get an update for the one Windows Live Essentials program I do have installed.

And lo and behold--Windows allows updates of only installed Essentials programs!

This could be very good news for others, so I wanted to post this with the graphic.

    Yippee!

Good to know I don't use the live essentials components so I was not personally aware of this myself. Good to know.
