Windows 7 - "Select updates to install" - but the list is empty!

| | "Select updates to install" - but the list is empty! Windows Update shows its updates in a list and says "Select updates to install", but often the list items are not shown. See attached pictures! What kind of silly bug is this? And why is it never fixed? It was the same in Vista, years ago. Updates are critical for security, but all updates are not wanted - so this bug forces me to avoid to install the unknown updates, reducing my (and other people's) security. It appears to happen when the computer has been running for quite a while. If I restart Windows though, it always seems to work alright again. But restarting the operating system is never a reasonable workaround. |
